Living a spiritual life in the world around us
All are invited to the Canterbury Shaker Village on Sunday, November 5th for a day of worship and spiritual exploration co-sponsored by the Village, the Canterbury United Community Church, and the Church of the Woods / Kairos Earth.
These organizations, collaborating for the first time in this way, hope to offer all who seek spiritual meaning an opportunity to step outside of their normal ways in a day of open-minded togetherness.
It begins at 9:30 with registration, coffee and morning food, followed at 10:00 by a joint church service presented by the CUCC and Church of the Woods and held in the village. Free-will donations will be accepted to help cover event costs, and any surplus will go to the Canterbury Fund as an expression of community service.
At 11:00, participants will be invited to choose among several options for a time of contemplation, including a nature walk led by the Rev. Stephen Blackmer of Church of the Woods and naturalist Ruth Smith, as well as a discussion of Tolstoy’s Calendar of Wisdom under the guidance of Max Latona, a professor of philosophy at St. Anselm College, and Amanda Grappone Osmer.
At noon, we will share in sacred fellowship over a potluck lunch featuring soup prepared by the Canterbury Benevolent Society.
And at 1:00, participants may choose among several more options for active worship, such as singing with the Shaker Singers under the direction of Kathy Southworth, yoga with Jo Brooks, and an open studio with Hannah Anderson, an artist, life coach and Episcopal priest.
The event will end at 2:30, following a closing gathering around the question of how to carry its spirit forward.
Attendees are welcome to participate in the full day or attend only a portion, depending on their time and interests.
To facilitate planning for the day, those interested are asked (but not required!) to register in advance on the Kairos Earth website at:
